Mixed Results on Derby Day at The Curragh

A glorious Sunday on Irish Derby Day at the Curragh in July both Master Speaker and new recruit Georgian Bay were primed and ready to go.

Up first and running in his first race under Ado McGuinness in the 2:20 7f Westgrove Hotel Handicap, Georgian Bay went of at 20/1 having been backed in from 33/1.

Held up towards the rear by apprentice Thomas Sherry, Georgian Bay opened up inside the final two furlongs to capture a very commendable 3rd place. Deffinitely more to come from Georgian Bay.

Stepping up in class again, Master Speaker went in the 16:05 Premier Handicap. Like in his previous races, Master Speaker was held up towards the rear looking for a gap to kick on inside the final 3f, however, it was not to be as he was unable to make an impression on the leaders. The hard and fast ground proved too much for Master Speaker this time.
